3. Heart Attack

  1. Characterized by one or more of the following symptoms:  chest tightness, nausea, sweating, shortness of breath, fatigue, pain in the arm or jaw, pallor
  1. Importance of recognizing symptoms. Call 911.  Have patient chew 1 full strength aspirin. Be prepared to start CPR if necessary. 
  1. Is usually the result of a clot (thrombus) that occludes, or partially occludes one or more of the coronary arteries. Right coronary artery goes to bottom (inferior) part of heart. Left anterior descending goes to anterior portion of heart. Depending on where the clot occurs, determines what part of the heart goes without blood supply and oxygen.
