18. AED Use in Child / Infant CPR

Special considerations include child pads, which are smaller in size. Some AEDs have a key or switch that  you will need to activate to use AED on children or infants. Others have a separate receptacle for infant / child pads. If AED has child pads use them for children under 8. If no child pads, may use adult pads, but you should ensure pads do not touch each other. If pads are too large, can use anterior-posterior placement (chest-back). For infants, manual defibrillator is preferred. Next best is AED designed for infant and children. Can still use adult AED as last resort.
